The day has come your wedding dress has finally arrived and is ready for collection. When this happens your upcoming nuptials seem to become more real somehow. Now comes the onerous task of making sure that nothing happens to your precious garment before the big day.
Depending on when you ordered your wedding dress, it may be hanging hidden away for anything up to six months. Here are some tips to make sure your wedding gown remains pristine until its big reveal!
Never wear any type of makeup or tan when trying your dress on to show people prior to your wedding. This includes lipstick, mascara and eye shadow as well as foundation. No matter how careful you are there is always a danger that a small fleck with transfer onto your wedding gown. If you feel you really want to see what the dress will look like with your makeup done wrap a scarf around your head when you are putting on your dress.

Invest in a pair of cotton gloves to wear when touching your beautiful wedding dress. We all touch our faces and hair unknowingly as such it is easy to transfer makeup onto your elegant gown without knowing. Dark nail varnishes can also stain so best to be safe and wear a pair of gloves, that way you know nothing can happen.
Make sure your wedding dress is on a a padded hanger, not a wire or wooden hanger. These may leave permanent indentations in the fabric of your dress which cannot be removed. Wire hangers can also cause discolouration to your clothes which is why dry cleaners place a paper cover over the hanager.
To achieve the best in Wedding Dress Care, never store your dress in a plastic case as your clothes will not be able to breathe and trap humidity. Protect your dress from dust and the atmosphere by using a high quality cotton garment bag or duvet cover. If your garment bag is not wide enough to allow the bottom of your skirt and train to hang full then use an extra wide duvet cover. Keeping the bottom of your dress crumpled for long periods of time will result in creases that no amount of steaming will be able to remove.
Ideally its best to hang your dress in the open however if this is not possible make sure that your wardrobe is clean and dry. Remove all other garments from the wardrobe.
