Wedding dress shopping can be a daunting and nerve racking experience. Brides can become jaded with the process after a couple of shops, if they have not managed to find their perfect dress and can also become completely overwhelmed. There is so much choice how are you ever going to know which is the right wedding dress for you. Or are you ever going to find the right one?
There are a few things that a future bride can do to make bridal shopping more enjoyable and successful. We have outline a few below for you, which we hope will help.
Where are you having your wedding?
Think about the type of wedding you are having and where it is. If the wedding is in a sunny country you will want to make sure that you choose natural fabrics for your wedding dress so that the fabrics can breathe and you will be cool in the bridal gown. If you are having a simple wedding in a registry office you might want a less formal dress than someone who is having a traditional church wedding.
Try every style on, this will give you a clear idea about the shapes that suit you and what you like and dislike, as well as the colours and types of fabrics which are most flattering for your shape. As with any good bridal boutique we like to give our clients a style consultation which goes through the shapes, styles and colours that suit their body shape and skin colouring. This is invaluable advice which you can take with you to any bridal boutique you visit.
Don’t be put off if you can’t find the complete wedding dress that you like. If you find a skirt from one dress, a top from another dress, a sleeve from a different gown that would give you the perfect wedding dress, that’s not a problem. Some bridal boutiques can alter the dresses they have for you or you can get that dress made. When you are doing your research keep images of everything you like – it can be very handy to create a pinterest board, for example. It will help you to determine the style of dress you choose and also if you decide you need to get your dress made it will help the designer make the perfect wedding dress for you.
Have you found your wedding dress yet?
Allow yourself enough time when you are wedding dress shopping. We can make a bridal gown in six to eight weeks however for some bridal boutiques it can take up to six months. You don’t want to have to settle for a dress rather than choose the one of your dreams because you don’t have enough time to order it in. Also once your bridal gown arrives make a consultation for any alterations that need done sooner rather than later. The seamstress will be able to tell you how long the alterations will take and you can then book a time in closer to the wedding for this work to be done. You need to make sure you allow the seamstress enough time to do the alterations however you don’t want them done too early as the wedding dress needs to fit like a glove on the day.
Best of luck with your shopping. Hope you have a fabulous experience!
